At the far end of the Grand Lobby is an impressive staircase graced with an arch similar to the one found on the oppostie wall around the Coronado painitng. Originally maroon velvet drapes hung from the arch. Intricate iron railings used along the stairs as well as in front of two alcoves on either side of the steps were handcrafted in the Michaelangelo Studios in Chicago.
To the left of the staircase in an alcove is a stuffed parrot of varigated colors perched on a circular ring. Originally a live parrot was used in keeping with the outdoor motif, but the real bird became impractical. |
