The large stage has a depth of thirty-five feet. The proscenium is adorned with heavy red velvet act curtain with a patterned traveller just behind it. Off stage right is a large electrical panel that controls more that four thousand light bulbs for the theatre, as well as special stage lights. The stage is definitely a hemp house. On stage right is the pin rail for the convenience of large shows. The stage is also equipped with a large movie screen, installed in the fifties by Charles Herman to replace the original smaller one. Herman made the screen fifty-two feet wide so it could be advertised as "the largest screen in Akron." Off of stage left is a small dressing room for the star of the show. If you look carefully on the walls you may find the name of a favorite star who played the Civic and signed their name on the wall of the dressing room. The eleven other dressing rooms are downstairs under the stage. |
